This is *Heaven*
Now:
1) Those remote can see what’s happening – in Portland, other places. The 99% can now see how we do it and the 1% can know we will not be scared of their noise overcoming our signal.
2) Our Occupy Portland site has the power to talk and crystallize it’s purpose and solutions – be they off site supporting or on site holding the Occupies.
More other ways than I can write fast enough to list!
I love what you guys are doing.
At the risk of betraying my maturity, I hope that small, achievable action items, like voting and changing your bank to a local credit union (seriously – the 1% get their money from you!!!!) are being discussed as well as larger goals.
Successful movements find achievable goals and move from there!
Finally!! Thank you!! One issue – labeling these notes as Oct. 12 is confusing. I’d suggest changing the date to reflect that of the General Assembly rather than the date of posting.
Skeeloco– duly noted. Was late when I got that posted
Ysterday morning, A group of people took down the barricades after the GA posting said consensus was to keep the street closed. And the website was silent.
The street was forcibly taken, arrests were made, and not a darn thing said on the official website about it.
This website couldn’t be less useful than if it was a news outlet from China.
This is not what democracy looks like!
Agreed on the lack of timely info as to the events since last night’s GA. I get that keeping on top of these things and crafting an acceptable message to post in a timely manner is daunting. Twitter is really the best source for this type of “breaking” news and I have no problem with that. However, central to those using this site, WHERE are we holding future GAs, specifically the one that’s happening less than four hours from now? My hunch is that they themselves are unsure at this point, or if the info on the site is accurate, they plan to block the street for tonight’s meeting. Would be nice to know.

Looking for notes from the actual 10/12 Assembly…anything? I watched the livestream, but had to go to bed b4 the end.
Why is it taking so long to get the GA notes up here? Is there no-one to post what is taken down? I thought the notes were being transcribed directly to computer during the meetings. Did that not work out?
That would be awesome, but no, that is not currently happening. Presently we have volunteer note-takers which is all hand written. Sometimes they are transcribed to a text file; most often they are not. Between having something that is easy to post (takes a lot of work) and just scanning and posting raw notes (takes even more work) and having consistent power and internet access (we don’t but we’re working on it), the process is very sporadic with inconsistent times and results.
We have been working *very* hard to improve this and you will notice a better LiveStream and the new forums we launched today as part of this. We have a GA process for posting notes, but it is dependent on all those factors which often change and break down at different points.

Can anyone tell me the exact details of the proposal submission process at General Assembly meetings?
Thanks!

I was at Terry Schrunk Plaza today as Amanda Fritz, city council woman was speaking and a dude who passed out business cards running for president kind of upstaged her and started on his own ramble.
I was so impressed by the way the crowd did the ‘wind it up’ gesture and influenced him to do something else. So civilized! Got back to the subject. Elegantly.
Occupy guys: You are a good example to others.
Thank you for representing all of us.
On the proposal of the 18th to split GA meetings into 2 locations, when OP leaves the Tactical Stage, with it’s internal logistical concerns, and moves to the Strategic Stage to get more global concerns acted upon, I feel strongly that splitting the meeting place and time for GA is imperative. The needs of people camping out on 2 blocks in downtown Portland are critical now- how about a month or 6 months from now? Those issues will reach steady state, and then the global meeting place will open up your cadres to the wider Portland community. 98% of GA information and energy is Tactical- a separate meeting place for Global GA meetings is the way to grow the movement into the Strategic Stage.

As a footnote to my response above, I am willing to donate a large, complete PA system, person it every night in perpetuity, and work out all the details of permits, etc., with the City of Portland. Anyone interested in helping me with this is welcome, just send me email. Just figure out where you want the Global Strategy GA to be- PS, waterfront, somewhere close to OP camp.
Solidarity
The best way to be involved as a notetaker is to show up at the ga and find a facilitator, and tell them you want to do it. I believe the facilitators are still meeting at 5 or 6 to figure out who is going to do what. So sometimes there may already be a notetaker. But often there is not and we have to figure it out as the GA is just about to begin. Also the PA system would be amazing to have every night. absolutely come and coordinate that with anyone there helping facilitate, or just bring it. Power sources have been tricky so if you happen to have a portable system, or a way to generate it with a bike, people will power the bike, just set it up.
I am often able to come down to the Occupation to take notes at the GA. Because of my work schedule, I often don’t get down there until nearly 7pm. What is the best way for notetakers to “sign up” to take notes, so people on-site know it’s covered? Is there a sign up sheet, etc. etc.? I haven’t seen a “Postee” section in the forums. Thank you for the help!
Social Justice, enshrined as the idea of Equal Representation in the US Constitution, is the animating ideal of the Occupy Movement.
The march of Social Justice is a long one…
Hammurabi increased social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
The Magna Carta increased social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
The Declaration of Independence increased social by justice limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
The Civil War increased social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
Gandhi increased social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
King increased social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
The Arab Spring increased social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
The Occupy Movement, one more step in the long march, seeks to increase social justice by limiting the power of the wealthy, ruling elite.
David, only missing the demarcation that leads to today, the 14th Amendment left the door ajar. It opened a path to the injustice of today by not distinguishing between natural and artificial persons. It is a historical discussion whether this was oversight or machiavellian.
Nonetheless, it is apparent that attempts by corporate entities to expand the constraints imposed upon them were for over a 100 years regularly defeated and we can chart an historical course subsequent to the 14th. It is course of increasing corporate hegemony that culminated with Citizens United v FEC.
We are in a world of sh** until this is corrected. Abe made a point, larger goal…, Occupy, this resistance seems to tap dance around the question.

Where are the notes from 10/9, 10/10, and now the 20th?
Dave should have the notes from 10/20?
Where are the 10/23 notes please?
we are working on getting the notes for missing days.
Please we need GA notes kept current.
Please come to the GA and offer to take notes! We’re always looking for notetakers.
The GA are fascists!
Would you care to support this statement with examples? Otherwise, it’s just ranting.
2-3 WORD TITLE OF EACH PARAGRAPH OR SUBJECT FOR QUICK REFERENCE
On GA notes and comments, it would be nice if a 2 or three word title over each paragraph of the subject of the paragraph so its easy to scan quickly for a particular topic.
TOPIC INDEX TO AVOID DUPLICATION OF TOPICS
It would be nice to have an index of topics so to avoid duplication at future meeting.
