Boys in Blue by Occupy Portland’s Own Patchwork Family

“Boys in Blue” is a song by Justin James Bridges about his experience of police brutality at the eviction of Occupy Portland on 11/13/11. As a result of the attack, he is in a wheelchair and does not have full feeling or movement in his right hand or right leg. On Christmas Eve, he regained enough use of his thumb to pluck guitar and formed the band Patchwork Family with other Occupy Portland friends. Their upcoming album, “Beyond Eviction”, will be released on 4/20/12 and will be available for FREE download at http://patchworkfamilyband.com. Occupier Jesi LoPresto put together the video.

Lyrics:
Boys In Blue
by Justin James Bridges

They’re here to protect and serve
They’re here to make sure nobody gets hurt
They’re here to keep the peace, or so they say
Blindly do what they tell you, you’ll keep a smile on their face.

But I’ve seen the other side of the Boys in Blue
Yeah I’ve seen them with their batons and their riot suits
Beating on peaceful protesters man yeah that’s what I’ve seen
Believe it can happen to you, cause it happened to me

They say go home and watch the news
But they forgot to mention they’ve been bought off yeah man the media’s lying to you too.
Cops say, “we’re only doing our job.”
We’re only following orders we do what we’re told yeah it comes down from the top.

But I’ve seen the other side of the Boys in Blue
Yeah I’ve seen them marching them horses in crowds of people two by two by two
Beating on kids, pushing down women yeah man that’s what I have seen
Believe it could happen to you, cause it happened to me.

Think for yourself before you speak out of line
They’ll come down hard in the blink of an eye
Talk about the truth, or stand up for your rights
You best be ready for one hell of a fight.
But this ain’t the way things have gotta be
so come now with me and let’s take to the streets.

I’ve seen the other side of the Boys in Blue
I’ve seen them tuck their tail and run and hide when we made them look like fools
They’re losing all their perceived power that’s what I have seen
Believe it could happen to you, cause it happened to me

Yeah I’ve seen the other side of the Boys in Blue
I’ve seen the side of them they’re people just like me and you
I’ve seen the fear in their eyes when we dance all around them that’s what I have seen
So come now let’s take to the street, Whose street? Our street!

  1. [...] Amazing lyrics and music by a man confined to a wheelchair after being assaulted by the Portland Police Bureau. After he was assaulted he was denied medical care and left on a sidewalk. Police refused to allow EMS to approach him to render aid. Boys in Blue by Occupy Portland’s Own Patchwork FamilyApril 7, 2012By opdxmycelium [...]
