Heads up to everyone – tomorrow, Monday, July 9th will be a day of action to rally against the planned cuts facing 129
Oregon post offices this summer, with a rally planned at St. Johns Post Office (8420 N. Ivanhoe). The details, from the Rural Organizing Project:

July 9th is a day of action: Postmaster General’s Plan – RETURN TO SENDER, organized by the Rural Organizing Project. Their goal is to have rallies against the cuts and closures in 25 new communities. 129 rural Oregon post offices face cuts this summer!

The ROP is following up their Occupy the Post Office action of December 19th and tying the action to preserving public space and social services as well as good jobs. The 13,000 rural post offices in the US which will have their hours cut 25 – 75% will lose 12,500 full time postmaster jobs.

Portland Communities and Postal Workers United decided to hold a solidarity rally on this Monday, July 9th, 4:30 – 5:30 pm at the St. John’s Post Office, 8420 N. Ivanhoe. We will have picket signs, flyers and postcards to the Postmaster General for customers to sign. Join us!
