***UPDATE: The Spokes Council Meetings are now the new place that All-Committee meetings happen. Notes here.
10.8.11 All Committees Meeting
….hand-written notes are available at info desk for meetings between 10/9-10/20. If you have the energy to type them up, PLEASE come down to the occupation and type them up. We’re always in need of fresh person-power.
10.21.11 All Committees Meeting
I am a self employed financial accountant. If you need any help with the structure of your finances or outside control issues – I would be happy to offer my services to this very important movement.
As if this was a no brainer, please remember to shop at local merchants that support the same vision of the cause when making purchases for Occupy PDX. Who knows, if we organize correctly and explain our involvement in the movement, they (the merchant) may offer a discount to us if we make purchases in bulk/quantity. This will better allow us to establish relationships, a working process, and results to meet our needs.
Also, I would recommend that “cash” donations be seconded as the engine to meet the needs of the committees, in choice of in-kind donations as the main component for meeting the committees needs. It can give more meaning and connection to an individual when they are the one choosing the manner in which they involve themselves with Occupy PDX.
These are just some of my thoughts.
Student and Education committee meets (for now, this may change) at 2pm on Mondays in Terry Schrunk Plaza
There is a committees calendar on the occupyportlandcalendar.org site. If you wish you can submit meeting times and details there.
It’s under the “Occupation” tab above.
the issue, in the final analysis, is, of course, making your point count. i have school age children in the tax paying burbs of pdx and i have been active in activities involving parents. they vote. they pay. at this time they ride the fence on support of occupyusa. the comments (and looks) were telling when i wore my guy fawlks mask at halloween events. the point being this – consider the formation of a ‘futures steering committee’. consider your logistics from outside the bubble. make the public love you by way of killing with kindness. the election season starts soon, what will a winter of cold, hunger and bad press buy you vs. the notion of getting out at the top of your game with a committed and connected organization? spent the winter resting and talking and being warm. sow your seeds next spring, enjoy the summer and come back like a typhoon next fall, 6 weeks before the election – rested, ready and prepared to deal with the media and the mind set they create. the scales are not tipped in your favor right now but you have a force that will be effective IF applied at the right time. in closing i will say the the truth is as it has always been – it is who you know that matters.

ps. take a lesson from ‘v for vendetta’ – exit with suspense now and return in force in a year.
WE NEED TO STAND AND MARCH THROUGH OUR TOWNS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE NEED PEOPLE TO LISTEN SO MAKE SURE THEY HEAR US THE MEDIA WON’T TELL PPL THE TRUTH SO LET PPL TELL THE TRUTH!
We are getting closer everyday to becoming a communist country because it is the step b4hand WE LIVE IN A MONOPLY!
No body can here you in the city it’s to loud so let them hear us in our home towns let them hear us everywhere if we don’t change it soon we are in doom!
This is what I posted everywhere I could…..We need to expand and get the word out. We can’t sit here like I am right now at this computer and expect any results we need to march through our home towns we need to inform the people. Half the people I talk to don’t even know what occupy portland is other then the fact that we are doing a bunch of damage to the lawn.We need to make a drastic change and make sure everybody can hear us……there are to many people not even paying attention because global media has a good way to deter people!
To Benjamin Morrow and others interested,
The Occupy Portland Outreach team certainly agrees with that sentiment that the message of this movement needs to be dispersed to the communities and neighborhoods in Portland and thats what we are currently undertaking. We are planning and organizing special project to engage the masses in local activism and to provide greater opportunities to have our voices heard. And we need the multitude of city dwellers to join us to make this happen. Occupy Neighborhood Assemblies is what this project is called and if you would like to know more info and how you can participate, please get in contact with the Outreach team or call 503 477 3512.
As the camp site is currently going through its struggles and chaos right now, broad support ad participation in activism can still be won over by taking our message to the Neighborhoods!
Since the park and camping are out of the question. Has there been any discussion on standing peacefully along the sidewalks? Holding signs, not blocking entrances to buildings, but getting the message across. I think there are enough people to volunteer to cover “shifts” of standing and people to bring them snacks and lunches and such. No camping or anything, just lining our city’s sidewalks in show of the movement. Being generally pleasant in nature but serious about the cause would seem to be a way to work with the community and get better focus from others. Also it covers more ground to be visible.
I am sure we can keep peace with the Mayor and keep our wonderful city in it’s true nature this way.
Has there been any open dialog about this?
