The following is an announcement from the Occupy Portland Info Desk, and is not a message from General Assembly:

Blue-Haired-Mike Shivers On a Cold Slice of GraniteIn peaceful solidarity and in the venerable tradition of bearing personal discomfort in order to illustrate injustice, three humans have been bearing 40 degree temps in long johns and socks.

Beginning with the Portland Police Bureau’s removal of the personal property belonging to the people occupying a southwest park block, one man removed his clothes and sat on a large granite rock. Within an hour another had joined him; within three, there were three.
We three sit here after four and a half hours with 5 others, woman and man, who provide us warmth and cheer.

We demand that the people be allowed to exercise the right of free assembly, and that the Portland Police Bureau allow us to provide each other with the basic human need of shelter in the form of tents.

Individually, and as a group we are ready, willing, and able to illustrate collective suffering until the Portland Police Bureau allows all of us here to care for ourselves and each other.

An additional note from the editor, Prof P:
The police have been nice enough to give us direct orders and  break down anything we can use to stay sheltered under or in. It’s rather hard to build a camp when your neighbor keeps deconstructing what you’ve put up. No arrests have been made. A contingent of 4 to 8 police officers have been on site since 8, this morning, not dressed in armor.

It looks like we might be able to make it through the night but our forecast calls for a low of 27 degrees.  If you’re coming down, you might find it hard to pitch a tent without a citation and will want to bring a a warm, dry sleeping bag.
