I send support and caring for the work you are doing. Thanks for your awareness, values, and competence in the face of overwhelming odds.
Hey I just saw the part of the video where a peanut butter and jelly sandwich gets offered to the homeless guy who was constantly abusing drugs/intoxicated, pulled his pants down and flashed his penis to a girl around the age of nine, and was eventually chased off the grounds by a pack of younger men. Then he came back in the middle of the night and was found sleeping in the kids camp area in the morning, and was dragged off by the police and supposedly trespassed from the property. Wish you would have cut him out of the “Keeping It Safe” video. I’m afraid to watch the rest, but I’m sure there might be a comment coming.
PB and J (interesting pseudonym choice),
I, personally, do not know if the account of that individual is true or not but I’m going to comment on other individuals that have similarly painted a bad picture of the occupation.
There are many mentally ill and homeless individuals that have made their way to the camp, free food and a dry place to sleep is very attractive to those that rarely receive it, and it is a part of the Safety Committee’s job to constantly deal with these individuals. Especially the ones that pose a threat to others in the camp.
A large reason why many of us are down here is because of the mismanagement of money within our government, this includes the lack of funds to properly care for individuals like this. If the city and state was doing their job this wouldn’t be a part of the Safety Committee’s.
So, yes, we are constantly “Keeping It Safe” by dealing with individuals like that. They too are a part of the 99% and they too need our help.
Okay. this video started making me SICK. No alcohol or drug abuse inside the occupation? TELL THAT TO THE PEOPLE SERVING ON COMMITTEES. TELL THAT TO THE PEOPLE RUNNING AND TAKING PART IN OCCUPY PORTLAND. I HAVE SEEN MANY, MANY COMMITTEE MEMBERS WASTED. DO YOUR OWN DAMN PART, AND WIPE YOUR OWN DAMN ASS. THE DISRESPECT AND LACK OF LEADERSHIP IS STAGGERING AND PATHETIC AND SAD.
