Kid’s Camp

Kids CampSomeone from the camp approached the media tent today with a message, one that might provide some assurance for mothers who might be curious about whether or not they can bring children.

“The whole camp is a safe and fun place for our children; a platform for taking care of our next generation.  We provide food, toys, and an understanding presence for kids and anyone who wants to join us in the occupation.”

My wife and our 4 month old Daughter were hanging out yesterday. Only concern I had then was stray tobacco smoke, but sounds like a location has been setup for that. It was completely safe and a very calm environment.

there might be dads out there with the same question.
wouldn’t it sound a lot better to include them in your posting as well or maybe give it a gender neutral definition like parents?

Hi! Thanks for suggesting the inclusive language! Maybe that will encourage more dads to actually show up in the Kids’ Camp. There have been some dads, but a lot more women so far.

I brought my son to the camp on Friday night to see what democracy looks like. He really enjoyed it. I think it’s a fine venue for kids, cigarette smoke the exception.

I also agree with mike from last night. The post should be gender-neutered to reflect fathers as well. There are plenty of single fathers out there and assuming that it is just a single mother issue with kids is sexist and gender biased. Fathers are just as capable as mothers in teaching and raising children.

Please make certain the media gets this gender neutral message on Parenting in an occupied zone (trust me, it happens with both parents around the world in occupied territory!)

This is good to know, I’ll be heading down in a while with mine. I want him to see what democracy looks like…even though he’s not quite old enough to know what democracy is yet he’s old enough to remember this as he gets older.

I’d like to echo the discomfort with the language on the post. I see it was recognized, but no changes have been made. Why not “…assurance for parents or caregivers…?” I’m glad efforts are being made to make this a family friendly space. Intergenerationality and inclusivity are key to the success of our ideas.
