There are simply too many people unengaged with us while too little word being spread about us as we embark on our 2nd year. And it certainly doesn’t help that the corporate media would falsely label us as “dead”. But with an office space, phone, and 24/7 small-scale “occupation” and vigil at City Hall of 10 months, it’s clear that we have a real, sustaining future for our Portland area citizens. But how could they know? That is why we are launching a new advertisement campaign to raise awareness ourselves and provide opportunity where none has been before. Our goal is to raise $1,885 (with taxes and fees by Indiegogo, that gives us $1,750) to establish 25 “Michalangelo” ceiling ads inside TriMet buses and MAX lines to last us about 4 weeks.
October 6th marks the one year anniversary of Occupy Portland rising up to expose the economic inequalities in our country and our world, and to demand that people take precedent over profit. October 7th marks eleven years since the US invasion and continued occupation of Afghanistan. To mark these historic events, the Peace Network and Occupy Portland will be hosting the Occupy Portland, Not Afghanistan two-day event. We come together to demand an end to wars and military occupations; money for jobs, education, health care, housing and the environment, not war; the restoration of constitutional rights and the importance of main street, not wall street! On Saturday October 6th we will gather at noon in Shemanski park (South Park blocks at Salmon) for a rally and march. Speakers for the rally include Saba Ahmed, Carol Urner, Brian Wilson and Ahjamu Umi, among others. We will also celebrate with music from General Strike, Patchwork Family, Keith Baich, Mo Mack and the Raging Grannies! Then on Sunday October 7th, there will be teach-ins and workshops conducted at PCC Cascade (North Killingsworth and Albina) starting at noon with a panel discussion by Brian Wilson, Saba Ahmed, Sami Alloy, Steve Goldberg and Ahjamu Umi.
On June 20th, the Summer Solstice and longest day of the year, Community Supported Everything is declaring Interdependence Day. We believe we can all benefit from celebrating the potential of our collaboration in between resisting and protesting. At 11:45am we will gather at the northeast corner of Pioneer Square in preparation for our Global Collaboration Flash Mob. Immediately following we will begin preparations for the Community Supported Everything Dinner and Dance Party at Colonel Summers Park at 6 pm. The Dinner is going to be featuring the free and vegan cuisine of Food Not Bombs and the Occupy Portland Kitchen followed by a decentralized dance party. We are calling on our Community to come share your stories, ideas, cooking, art, music, passion and intention to work together to build a more enjoyable world. Sometimes we just need to make time to celebrate what’s possible. Find us on the web at www.thesymbiosisproject.org Or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CommunitySupportedEverything
