Using, wherever possible, locally produced and sustainable ingredients that are healthy and nutritious. A model that builds community, offers a hand up, and helps to end food waste.

Ne Si’ka is a full service restaurant in the quality food tradition that allows patrons to pay as they are able. Suggested prices will be posted and those with means can pay the suggested price, or more if they so choose. All proceeds will go into the non-profit and for fighting hunger. Those who are unable to pay will have opportunities to volunteer at the restaurant in whatever capacity they are willing or able. This may be in the kitchen, the community garden, or a variety of other options. No one is turned away for inability to pay. The goal is to create a completely non-biased and comfortable atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and has a seat at the table. While we help to alleviate hunger and food insecurity, the broader intention is to help create and foster a greater sense of community.
Everyone, regardless of means, has the right to dine with dignity and have access to a quality, nourishing, thoughtfully prepared meal.

There are many goals surrounding our project. Some big, some small, but they all add up to building a stronger healthier community that works for everyone. Offering a hand up to those who need it while offering amazing and gratifying opportunities to those with the ability to help. All surrounding quality food from the heart.

Beginning on August 23 and continuing through November, Occupiers and their supporters will flood the courthouse as trials unfold on issues including police misconduct, free speech and the right to assemble. On Thursday, defense attorneys made several motions requesting more detailed discovery information from the prosecution, including the identity of one unnamed Occupy Portland informant. Defense attorneys also noted that the prosecution has provided reports about specific individuals but not for all defendants, as well as failing to provide evidence of all Miranda warnings given to defendants at the time of their arrests. Judge Albrecht reiterated that the prosecution is required to hand over this information if it exists. Assistant District Attorney Brian Lowney claimed that to the extent such records exist they have been provided. The prosecution also clarified that they have yet to receive a response to their Portland Police Bureau request regarding the confidential source named in police reports. Judge Albrecht made it clear that the defense will have to subpoena the police if it wants this information.

After hearing motions, trial dates were set for most Occupy cases. Because these dates are subject to change without notice at the whim of the court, attendees are encouraged to check with the court before heading downtown.

Occupy trial schedule

Sept. 5-6, Courtroom 602 — Chapman Square eviction on 11/13/11.

Sept. 11, Courtroom 518 — Main Street and 3rd Avenue arrests on 10/13/11.

Sept. 24, Courtroom 428 — trial of Dan Kaufman and the Disco Trike (Tahrir Square solidarity march).

Sept. 26-27, Courtroom 216 — Jamison Square arrests on 10/30/11.

Oct. 2, Courtroom 428 – Col. Summers Park arrests on 2/6/12.

Oct. 3-4, Courtroom TBA — N16 arrests.

Oct. 3-4, Courtroom TBA — N17 (Chase Bank) arrests, except Elizabeth Nichols.

Oct. 8-9, Courtroom 428 — trial of Elizabeth Nichols, arrested on N17.

Oct. 15, Courtroom 428 – trial for arrests on F29 (2/29/12).

Nov. 13 -14, Courtroom 428 – May Day arrests on 5/1/2012.

All trials begin at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Dates are still pending for Occupy the Post Office arrests (5/24/12) and Shemanski Park (12/3/11) eviction.

We need to have a very accurate count of those than can surely attend because of the cost, paid for by the Nurses Union. Their concern is because Nato cost 100K and some seat were not filled from west coast.

We all may have to help convince the Nurses union that we mean to go by giving a 5 dollar donation to secure a seat (If you can’t find 5 dollars to get a round trip ride across country then…) I will help anyone figure out how to raise money if need be.

So if you cannot go please let Jessica or me know and we will remove you from page, for a few days so we can have an accurate count, you can rejoin after we figure who is going and when, if we can convince NU that we know who is going and will not change their mind. Smile.
Also for those interested in going, OWS has created this handy guide:

With this, they are at a urgent need for people to come down to pick up a sign and demonstrate. Share this info on Facebook and Twitter! The vigil keepers are calling for donations of balloons and helium gas. As part as a creative message tactic, the vigil keepers want these balloons, with to-the-point messages written by them, to float around the city and be given to passing children and adults to get a change of pace from the typical plasterboard sign. If you haven’t been by the Vigil recently, they have been doing a great job with their signs and messaging. If you can spare a few hours or at least help get the word out, it would be appreciated. The Vigil’s next planning meeting will take place this Friday, August 17th at 5pm at Terry Schrunk Plaza – at the last meeting on Sunday we had a great turnout and very constructive time – feel [...]

hearing on THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 9AM (courtroom to be announced). Trial
dates are likely to be finalized at this hearing, so it’s important that
you attend to make sure you’ll be in town for your trial date. Some
dates were already tentatively set at the last hearing (see tentative
dates at the end of the article here).

If you miss your trial, you will be defaulted. Other defendants who have
defaulted were automatically fined $200 per charge. Judge Albrecht issued her decision about the question of accessing video discovery, given the high cost of getting CD copies from the Discovery
Office. Basically, she ruled that the DA isn’t required to furnish
This means that each of us should contact the Discovery Office and
request an appointment to view your video discovery, if you haven’t done

so already. The number is 503-988-3018. *If you get any run around, you
should contact Judge Albrecht’s courtroom immediately.* The phone number

After viewing the video in the Discovery Office, if you need a /copy/ of
video for your defense (e.g. you need to view it on better equipment or
need to slow it down) and you can’t afford to pay $30+ per CD, we should
try to raise some funds for it. If anyone needs this or if anyone has
ideas for a quick fundraiser, let me know and I’ll help get the word out.

Other upcoming hearings: Kathryn Garcia’s trial for May Day is now
scheduled to begin August 27th. Please come show your support. Tequila,
Pablo, and No Name’s trials in Beaverton were also rescheduled for later
in August. Watch the calendar at elkpdx.org for more details. If you have another hearing or trial date coming up and you would like support, please call the ELK hotline (503-902-5340).

From the Anti-Austerity Study Group: Join us for the second in a series of discussions about how people locally and around the world are resisting austerity and building strong coalitions to protect public services, education, and the safety net. Our goals are to educate ourselves, strengthen our relationships, and develop a shared analysis of austerity and a shared orientation to strategies that work. We will start out with a potluck brunch and spend time getting to know each other. We’ll have some discussion in the large group and then break into small groups for more in-depth conversations using the discussion questions provided as a starting point. The meeting will take place at 10am on Saturday, August 11th @ NE MLK and Thompson (214 NE Thompson St). For more information check out the event page.
