Whew, lots happening as we enter the dog days of summer! Luckily the good folks over at Occupy Portland Info Team keep an updated calendar of events and meetings scheduled. And if you are one to use the Facebook, please check out the Occupy Portland Events Page to help keep up on all the going ons! The Info Team also keeps the office hours for our office at St. Francis, and we’ve got updated office hours (keep in mind the office may be closed for lunch, events, holidays, or emergencies):

Indigenous Solidarity Tour – In PDX July 27/29th

Several clans of the Wetsu’wet’en First Nation have blockaded the pathway of a proposed pipeline (actually 5 pipelines including The Northern Gateway) from the Tar Sands and tracking out to the BC coast, and have asked for activists to attend an action camp in early August to support the blockade. Organizers from the group Deep Green Resistance are traveling up the Pacific coast on a tour in late July to promote the Unis’tot’en Action Camp – the site of the blockade.

The event in Portland is a materials drive to gather supplies and donations for the Unis’tot’en Action Camp. We will be gathering tents, rope, white gas fuel, climbing gear, tarps, dried/canned food, coffee, money, and anything else that is useful in a backcountry camp setting. DGR organizers will be on hand to discuss the First Nations’ fight against the Tar Sands development and colonization, as well as what it means to work in solidarity with these struggles, and the work that we do.

General Assembly Moving Day and Location

The General Assembly is returning to Terry Schrunk.

General Assembly is now on Monday at 7pm following Agenda Setting at 6:30.

On Sunday, June 24th, Occupy Portland General Assembly approved a proposal to move G.A. from Sundays at Director’s Park to Mondays at Terry Shrunk Plaza at 7pm and holding Agenda Setting at 6:30 before G.A.. This move will go into effect starting the first week of July and the next General Assembly will be Monday, July 2nd. This move puts G.A. back where we started at the parks and shows solidarity and support for the ongoing vigil at City Hall. Hope to see everyone down there, and bring a friend.

Just a reminder: Spokes on Thursday, June 6th, 2012 at 7PM has been moved to Chapman Square (SW 4th Ave & Main St) in support of the Pedalpalooza Kick-off. It is also the All Committee Report Back Spokes, so we are calling all committees and working groups!!

Also, General Assembly on Sunday, June 10th, 2012 at 7PM has been moved to Overlook Park (N Fremont St & N Interstate Ave), where the Occupy PDX vs. Park Rangers softball game is being played. Spread the word!!

Occupy the Banks Planning Session this Wednesday, May 30th at First
Unitarian Church (SW 12th & Salmon) from 6pm-8pm.

Come help plan for a summer of “Move Your Money” adventures, discuss a
National Day of Action for November, learn how to get your
organization more involved, and help craft some collective messaging!

Occupy the Banks is designed to be an on-going weekly action hosted by
Occupy Portland in collaboration with organizations, groups, or
community members to apply continuous coordinated pressure on the
three mega-banks, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and JP Morgan Chase.

It looks as though the Citizen Review Committee is moving quickly to start its new Work Groups; after Tuesday’s Use of Deadly Force work group, then Wednesday’s CRC general meeting (agenda still hasn’t arrived), on Thursday next week they will hold the first meeting of their Crowd Control work group. It is open to the public. I should note that CRC Chair Jamie Troy’s office at NE 42nd and Sandy isn’t very large, but it could prompt them to find a larger meeting space if plenty of people showed up.

They were moved to start this group (after having it sitting in their “tracking list” for years) after hearing all the tesimony from Occupy Portland folks at their last public forum.

First May Day Spokes Council Meeting this Saturday 4/7 @ 11AM

This is a meeting for those that are planning actions, events, affinity group NVDA or any other thing for May 1st, 2012 that want to coordinate their activities with each other for maximum effectiveness. This is a public meeting, no sensitive information should be discussed in the meeting.

Feel free to invite others that you know who might be planning May Day actions.

When: Saturday April 7, 11-1pm
Where: First Unitarian church, 1011 SW 13th Ave in the Buchanan Room

Note: this is a coordinating council for groups planning actions, not a meeting to plan an action. If you are interested in getting involved with the May Day march and rally please contact the May Day Coalition.

Mar. 21st 3-5PM Committee to End Homelessness

One of the most prominent issues that came to light at the Occupy Encampment was the issue of homelessness. Homelessness, or houselessness is a serious issue that gets more pressing every day. Many Americans are finding themselves out on the streets as they lose their jobs and get foreclosed on by the banks. These banks that were bailed out by our tax dollars are finding every way possible to take possession of our homes. As we unite to take back what is rightfully ours, we must also take steps in our communities to restore equality here with the resources at our disposal. The city of Portland, 7 years ago, created a 10 Year Plan to end Homelessness. Occupiers are working with all the organizations which deal with homelessness to create a united front and hold the City to it’s plan. Please join the Committee to End Homelessness if you are passionate about getting people into the abundant spaces that sit empty.

Mar. 11th 2-4:30PM: Homeless Advocacy Unites!

Together we are strong. Homeless advocacy groups from across the diverse Portland spectrum will be meeting to discuss lifting the camping ban as well as other options available to help get people off the street and into homes. Meet from 2-4:30pm in the US Bank room at the Central Library in downtown Portland. Please alert anyone interested or working on homeless advocacy about this meeting.

5PM Today: Instant Run-off Voting Working Group Meeting

On Oct. 16, the Occupy Portland General Assembly agreed to support efforts to establish ranked ballots for the City of Portland.

The General Assembly of Occupy Portland advocates for Ranked Choice Instant Runoff Voting (or IRV).

The following amendment was added before it passed:
Understanding that this step is in itself insufficient but that we will take small steps as well as large.

Thus far, the workgroup has met with City Commissioners, the Director of Elections for Multnomah County, and other elected officials. Today, the IRV Workgroup meets Portland Building, room C reserved at 5 pm, 1120 SW 5th Avenue next to City Hall, doors lock at 6pm so call 503 839 0632 if you arrive late and Jorden can let you in. (They meet every first and third Tuesday, first Tues at Portland Building, 3rd Tues in City Hall). Dr. Sussman, Professor of Urban Studies and Communication at PSU will be in attendance.
