Confirmed information as posted on the facebook page:

• Bus is not guaranteed.

If bus does happen…..

• Bus trip will a number of days, round trip estimated from previous experience with NU providing buses is around 5 days there 5 back, being at OWS for 4 to 5 days. NU will let us know after we secure the numbers going.
• We need to have a very accurate count of those than can surely attend because of the cost, paid for by the Nurses Union. Their concern is because Nato cost 100K and some seat were not filled from west coast.
• We all may have to help convince the Nurses union that we mean to go by giving a 5 dollar donation to secure a seat (If you can’t find 5 dollars to get a round trip ride across country then…) I will help anyone figure out how to raise money if need be.

So if you cannot go please let Jessica or me know and we will remove you from page, for a few days so we can have an accurate count, you can rejoin after we figure who is going and when, if we can convince NU that we know who is going and will not change their mind. Smile.

On Sunday, June 24th, Occupy Portland General Assembly approved a proposal to move G.A. from Sundays at Director Park to Mondays at Terry Schrunk Plaza at 7pm and holding Agenda Setting at 6:30 before the General Assembly. This move will go into effect starting the first week of July and the next General Assembly will be Monday, July 2nd. This move puts G.A. back where we started at the parks and shows solidarity and support for the ongoing vigil at City Hall.  Hope to see everyone down there!

Joining the GA was Art Hendricks from Parks & Rec who stated Occupy Portland is in fact allowed to to come to a public park and that Parks & Rec had “no issues with (Occupy) meeting (at Director Park).”  Mr. Hendricks also apologized for the wording of the letter that was sent and agreed to write a new letter.  The General Assembly reached consensus to continue to communicate with Portland Parks & Recreation and to move to another location when Director Park is reserved for another event scheduled at the same time as a General Assembly meeting.

The Closer Ambient Electronica Festival will be at Director Park next Sunday (June 24) from 4pm to 7pm and Occupy Portland will conduct the General Assembly at Terry Schrunk Plaza.

Then please come to this training workshop, which will provide an introductory overview of the nature of activism, political organizing and direct actions. Pulling from a diverse history within multiple disciplines and traditions we will integrate concepts of conflict resolution, radical strategies, black block tactics, nonviolent struggle and more! There is something for everyone, and the purpose of this workshop is to inform the community about the wide variety of tools available in the activism tool box, as well the insight to know when and how to use which tool in a given situation.

This will be a highly participatory workshop format and there will be food! Hope to see you all there.

The 99% are a diverse group – from diverse backgrounds, with diverse histories. Methods that have worked in the past may or may not work in the future. It’s up to all of us to unite in agreement on the best methods and continue forward into the unknown but with the knowledge that SOMETHING must be done in a way that will keep us strong. It’s important for all to attend.

This Tuesday, Feb. 21st, the Occupy Portland Movement Building Open Forum will be focusing on this topic. Come to St. Francis at 7PM to discuss, as a community, our next steps forward as our skill-sets, knowledge, and tactics progress. An incredibly important discussion will be taking place to help Occupy Portland ground itself in values we can all agree to as we enter the American Spring.

Deepen your well of knowledge on the Black Bloc and other diverse tactics by checking out the Portland Occupier series on the Black Bloc. 

Also, check out the proposal that is coming up for general assembly consensus with regards to community agreements around a diversity of tactics. It’s based on the 2008 agreements made by a very diverse group in St. Paul at the Republican National Convention demonstrations.

This new community site is not just about Occupy Portland. It’s about all the work being done on all fronts within Portland to right the inexcusable wrongs we have for too long sat complacent with. Before Occupy Portland existed, there were thousands of activists in PDX working tirelessly on the issues that Occupy Portland has brought to the forefront of media and public attention. Thousands more recognized the need to get involved and do something about our future, together.

It’s time we all connect. It’s time we stop duplicating our actions while squandering precious resources. It’s time we ORGANIZE.
