Occupy Wall Street’s own Cecily McMillian is facing up to 7 years in prison for being physically and sexually assaulted by the NY Police Department during OWS’ six-month anniversary action in March 2012. McMillian was only observing when she was beaten, groped, and thrown into a seizure by officer Grantley Bovell’s actions. Since then, she is forced to bear with perverse criminal accusations for her suffering, made long by delays to her court date because of other misconduct allegations against Bovell.
Cecily’s Motion Hearing is finally set for TOMORROW, Mar. 19th @ 09:30 AM EST in Manhattan, and supporters are likely to pack the courts. There are at least two online petitions in circulation already — Avaaz and Popular Resistance — and is tallying in the thousands. Supporters have donated to Cecily’s Defense Fund and are gearing up for an all-out meme war on social media.
As Occupiers and organizers in Portland offended by this flagrant injustice, we hope to send our thoughts, prayers, and solidarity to Cecily and her Legal Team for a good hearing on Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates on Cecily’s progress and verdict. You can always learn the latest at Cecily’s website, Facebook or Twitter links.
