PATStrikeVote

Portland Association of Teachers (PAT) is currently in a contract fight with Portland Public Schools (PPS). While PAT is advocating for smaller class sizes, richer resources and more academic freedom, PPS decided at its last Board meeting to add limited teacher and bank millions “for a rainy day.” PAT has drafted a proposal to use a portion of the $20 million surplus to settle a fair contract and hire teachers to reduce overcrowding. The Board did not listen. The Board needs to hear from all of us that we want them to compromise with PAT.

What’s next?

  • PAT Strike Vote, Wed., Feb. 5th While teachers do not want to strike and would rather continue teaching, this vote will give the Bargain Committee the authority to file a strike as a last resort. If a strike is filed, it must be submitted 10 days in advance. The indoor meeting is only for teachers, but there are outdoor rallies planned in support of PAT.
  • Mediation round between PAT/PPS, Sun., Feb. 9th This meeting is also closed to the public.
  • PAT Forum for Parents, Mon., Feb. 10th, Alameda School (2732 NE Fremont St.), 07:00 PM

Your help is needed, NOW!

  1. Contact the Board Members! Send an email telling them you want a fair contract and PAT and smaller class sizes.
    •  (not voting)
  2. Contact your school principal also!
  3. Send a Letter to the Editor to The Oregonian.
  4. Deck out your lawn with a PAT sign!
  5. Talk to FIVE relatives, friends, or loved ones! Teachers need them to help spread the word.
