Ready for the sound of silence? At 10 p.m. tonight, in front of Portland’s City Hall, a vigil. After days of marches, rallies, demonstrations, and clashes of peaceful protesters with violent police in riot gear, Occupy invites us to some peaceful singing, a few candles, and a time to regenerate hope and optimism in a spirit of loving kindness. We light candles for the space that was our home, we gather with people who are houseless, and we leave peaceful footsteps behind us. We expect to meet in front of City Hall and to walk gently around Chapman and Lownsdale Parks, now garbed in chain-link fencing to keep us out.
