I've marched with Portland's occupy, and have visited the occupation routinely, but I feel that it is necessary to best protect the health of the movement more logically. My last visit there I had to hold my nose because of poor toilet training, and it was essentially a drug zoo with small time gangs fighting amongst each other over customers/finances (which is surreal to the beauty of some of the legitimate occupiers). The movement won't die or disappear, or become illegitimate because of this, but to invite everyone the night of the eviction to party/fest/potluck just shows further what course the movement has been on. Unfocused. There's no real reason to celebrate and there is no reason to be fearful. Move to another park, let them do some cleaning, move back and keep growing (WITHOUT PERMITS). And teach people how to use the restrooms a bit better. Massive amounts of mad love, be safe tonight.

Dear Occupiers,
I just wanted to give a thanks. if i could be out there i would be. Please know you have my support, energy, and courage. There will always be a negative outlook. Do not let that discourage you. I am sorry they don't see how you are helping them in soo many ways. I feel honored to live through this global change, and enlightenment. Stay strong, eat well, live well, and stay true to yourself.
-I love you all.

I wandered by Occupy while switching from Max to bus the other day.
Intimidated by the obvious CIA, sheriff and police presence ringing the perimeter, but impressed by the level of cooperation and organization within the camp, and re-asssured by the friendliness of city cops within the camp, I came back Friday with home-baked cookies for the coffee tent.
Bewildered and concerned what would happen to the homeless (less worried about the movement), I followed a newsman around for a bit. He refused to interview anyone who did not serve his purpose. He had a clear agenda. Several people in the park stood behind people he WOULD interview, their mouths covered, holding signs, silent. When the camera stopped rolling they decried him for refusing to interview them, that the only way to send their mssg was as background. I then spoke to him briefly and offered myself to be interviewed as a 58-year-old white woman delivering baked goods to the Occupiers. Also not his cup of tea. But he did take the time to try to convince me I was wrong to support the movement.
Better to go down as I did and form your own opinion. What I see clashes with the news.

You've formed an opinion based on what the media tells you. Now come see for yourself.
We invite you to a pot luck at 5pm tonite to see for yourself.
We may have covered the grass & we may be a bit muddy, but no long-term harm is being done… unlike the devastation of war, the destruction of frakking, coal mining, oil spills and the greed we are fighting.
Come down for today for this family-friendly potluck and we will set you free to form your own true opinion.
We have already won.
That means you have too.
