No one is “more aware” of corporate corruption since the beginning of this protest. There has not been an awakening, or anything really, as a consequence of this movement. I don’t know what you think is being accomplished by the movement at this point in time, but as a general Portland citizen, if it is not evident to me, then you it is not evident to other citizens, and the movement in ineffective. We all understand corporate greed, recent income gap increases, corporate money buying politicians, etc. We UNDERSTAND that. Everyone is hyper aware of these things that are constantly said at the protests. What is NEXT? Quit spouting the same garbage, and show some initiative. Make a change. Occupying a park does nothing to change things.

Why are you taking photos; are you a tourist? Is it reasonable for occupiers to conclude that those going through the camp are hostile? I would be. Look at what the Breitbart types do.

Over the pass few decades? Try since the day our country got started…the game is old. Yet, I still maintain that letting our government off the hook, those who create the laws (yes, after $$ has exchanged hands) that allow for corps to do what they do, is a mistake. And if the government and corporations are one in the same, like I said, camp out in Salem.

@Anna Nope you are wrong when you say OP has “done a good job of making you aware of the injustice of the United States economy.” You have done no such thing. A society with equality of outcome is not Just – it robs from the productive and redistributes resources to the unproductive – that’s not just. All I hear from Occupiers is gimme, gimme, gimme with no value that you are proposing to return to society. You want your student loans forgiven, mortgages modified, other debt forgiven, free health care, etc. These things aren’t free – someone else must pay for them. Why is it just to force others to pay for these things for others? I don’t disagree that many who are struggling could use a hand up, and that would lead to them being able to contribute more, but such a hand-up should be voluntary not compulsory. Also, for each “deserving” person who has a desire to be productive, there are about 10 people who will simply be parasites. What makes the US great and just is the equality of opportunity. There’s no doubt that there are occasional abuses of the system, which you are rightfully seeking to address – such as corporate influence buying. However, you lose all credibility when you don’t equally go after the influence buying of the labor unions. By far the biggest buyer of political influence is the NEA (do a google search and you will find that the NEA dwarfs contributions of companies like Bank of America to politicians. It’s time for the loser Occupiers to quit costing Portland taxpayers money. You’ve already cost us more than $400,000. Enough is enough. If you won’t go voluntarily then I welcome the police using any and all means and force necessary to remove you.

The Occupy locations are not homeless shelters or rehabilitation clinics. They are headquarters for a protest. These individuals should not be asked to leave because they abuse drugs or live on the streets; they, along with any others regardless of address or habit, should be asked to leave if they are not there to protest, participate, and contribute. Occupy Portland is losing traction primarily because of a lack of focus. Why are we here? To protest corporate stranglehold on our politics and society, which has led to economic and social injustices. “Giving these people a place to go” is treating symptoms of what we aim to cure, and it has acted as a huge distraction. Time to get back to basics and start trying to cure the cancer instead of the nausea it has caused.
