This is not an official statement by the General Assembly of Occupy Portland.

I’ve been thinking about this: I’m a suburban older mom who DOES have a job and have not been camping with you, but I do appreciate you camping for us. I think what is needed is basically keeping up the presence. I would be happy to keep someone’s place downtown overnight if they need to take care of business at home. I couldn’t spend more than one night at a time, but I could take turns… is that possible?
Please come on down and visit. The information stand near the entrance has a list of things that volunteers are needed for. Even just having more suburban folks come by to hang out, see what we’re doing, meet people, and make friends is great because it makes the environment more approachable to people who don’t feel comfortable with the counterculture crowd.
It’s a wonderful place to meet people and make friends. Maybe one of them would need his or her stuff watched overnight. Please visit!
Stay strong, Boston. This sort of thing makes me grateful for the cooperation we have had from both the police and the Mayor’s Office. I hope that the police come to realize that they are in this mess too, and don’t end up just being the strong arm of the corrupted corporate state.

i love your blog, i have it in my rss reader and always like new things coming up from it.
From one SuburbanMom to another – I think it is great that you are offering to help out by staying overnight in someone else’s place. I am not in a position where I can do that; however, yesterday, I had the idea that, while I was dropping off supplies, I could pick up a couple of loads of laundry. This morning, I returned the cleaned laundry along with a loaf of homemade bread. This evening, my plan is to pick up another load of laundry again. It’s not much, but if everyone helped just a little bit, it will make things easier for those who are on the “front lines” of this effort.
ALL OF US AT THE OCCUPATION SUPPORT BOSTON!!!! These people are our brothers and sisters and we need to stand with them in solidarity!
I hear you reinforced the barricades with wooden pallets? Is this true? I’m so proud of you all! I am posting from work right now but as usual I will be back as often as I can with contributions.
“Several Members of the Communications, Web, and Finance committees here at OccupyPortland wish to express our solidarity with the OccupyBoston encampment who is presently facing removal by police from their occupation.”
Who wrotes this?
And WTF does it mean? Im pretty damn sure we are all behind OccupyBoston!
Fix this.
Joe – I just replied to another comment of the same sentiment, that was more concise in it’s concerns. Please feel free to talk to me, or other web team members, if that comment did not resolve your concerns.
dear occupy portland,
I’m reading from afar, noticing the “This is not an official statement by the General Assembly of Occupy Portland” on the “solidarity with boston” post.
I personally think that’s not helpful, it allows citizens to say a few are speaking for the many, I think the general assembly is the only format for which to develop statements to be broadcasted from this site. Difficult, I know, but far more powerful to read. If a few with extra access due to skills have even a smidgeon more voice than others, our occupation is no longer a microcosm of what we hope to achieve.
-In loving solidarity
Jonathon, I appreciate your well stated concerns, and I’ll respond directly to this, as it was a difficult issue. The problem was that while some people *really* wanted to put the statement out, and felt it was time sensitive, it was not possible to get approval from a GA for a significant amount of time, since we only have two per day. The solution we came up with was to state that this came from specific committees, and to add the disclaimer.
Also, to be clear, the committees that wanted this stated were not the same as the people who approved the statement for the website – so it was not that people with greater access had any more voice than others.
I stopped by monument square on Sunday with my 15 year old daughter so that she could come to her own decision about what you are doing. I can assure you that the disgusting 6 to 10 people that were there at 1pm or so, in no way reflected anybody I know. I was terribly dissappointed for my daughter who was excited to maybe have a chance to discuss some ideas with people. The whole “mike check” and repeating of things when there was less than a dozen people was typical of the mental state of your pathetic, loser gathering. The bare breasted painted women were a nice touch to show the depth of your sincerity. Grow up.
Solidarity!
I am writing to thank and congratulate the campers. Our movement has been effectively isolated and ignored for too long, and one reason was that the previous one-day-demonstration tactics were inadequate against the corporate-owned State and its propaganda machine. The “occupation” tactic is demonstratively more powerful, and combined with the open and transparent democratic processes, has already moved so swiftly as to terrify the kleptocracy and its hierodules. (Note, for example, the hysterical attempt at propaganda above, with its reference to small crowds and nudity.)
The complaints, that certain minor park rules are violated by the occupation tactic, or that traffic is inconvenienced, pale beside the necessity of confronting our world-killing corporate fascist state.
I am with you, in spirit when not in body!
Theresa
Roosevelt’s argument was that the “political rights” guaranteed by the constitution and the Bill of Rights had “proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness.” Roosevelt’s remedy was to declare an “economic bill of rights” which would guarantee:
Employment, with a living wage,
Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies,
Housing,
Medical care,
Education, and,
Social security
Thanks for the eloquent input, Johnny.
Anyway, how is the community outreach doing? I was loving being able to see the minutes from the meetings posted, but there have been no posts for a while. I check the site and facebook 100 times at work and it’s really hard to get information on what’s going on. I’ve been inspired by other occupations’ websites that post constantly, keeping the working community informed. I can’t quit my job and be there 24/7, but I want to be a part of as much as possible. Please don’t forget about us folks out here in internet land! We can help keep your numbers strong, but we need to stay informed in order to do so. Thank you so much.
totally agree with the guy below me. I check this site a lot from work and would like to see more information. thats all. other than that awesome job with what you guys are doing. and the guy below who said there was only a couple disgusting people…fuck you. there is thousands on the way who are prob just like you. suck it to anyone who hates on this movment.
Take your World back 2011
This is the one simple and extremely easy action you can do to take your world back.
Two words: No Thing!
Yes, do No Thing for 24 hours. I am starting a world wide collective convergence to do No Thing for 24 hours.
This single simple action is the answer to all our concerns as divine entities of this galactic universe.
On 11-11, 2011 at 11:11 am. World wide, for 24 hours, Do No Thing for that time, but to set an intention for complete freedom, total healing, and world peace.
Through meditation and prayer for this period we together will know true freedom and ever lasting peace.
This is the one and only simple thing to do!
We just stay in our homes or where we happen to live and do no thing. Not even talk, just journey into our selves to our core and experience our true infinite nature, feeling only the love we have for our self’s and all living things, know this is the only truth.
By doing No Thing I mean just that. Sit quietly just breath and feel the love, feel good, feel the joy of knowing you are part of the greatest universal world wide event in the history of humanity.
Know that you are part of this great and noble act and with out your participation it would not be possible. You are important!! And you will make the difference. (remember this will not be possible with out you)
We will run no power in our homes, run no arenas, call no one, eat no thing, run no water, and cook nothing. We will watch no TV, read no mail, and do no thing but breath and send love and light to ourselves and all living thing, even thing we do not want to love.
We will do no driving, buying, or crying. We will rise above all, with love for all.
This will be the single most important thing you could ever do, No Thing!!
11-11 2011 at 11:11 am. is a holiday for most people in the working world, so the majority of working people will not have to miss work. If you do have to miss work this will be a small sacrifice for the reward we will all receive.
This simple single act will set the collective reset button on life for all living things.
This will be the most responsible act any one person can or will ever do in ones life time.
Look at it as a service to your self and to all other living things!!
Just No Thing for 24 hours. That is all, No Thing more No Thing less that is all.
What do you have to lose? The answer is No Thing, think about it. No Thing and all will be gained and No Thing lost.
This is the truth, Know the truth, seek the truth, and the truth will set you free. Have complete acceptance for your self and all. Know unconditional love for all, and you will know true happiness and complete peace.
Please join me and the Billons of people world wide in this once in a life time truly incredible experience that will give you and the rest of the people in the world the chance to know the truth once and for all.
I ask all of you to spread the good word, as this is the greatest event that we will ever know and It will only be possible because of you. All is because of you.
Thank you,
And may all your dream and wishes come true. May you always be with love, light, freedom, and happiness for eternity. May you have abundance and ever lasting health.
Anonymously you’re other self.
Naima – I invite you to help work on the wiki side of all of this. If we can organize online there, we ca start to get questions answered and information flowing. I am willing to give 5 minute lessons on how to use a wiki for anyone interested. Best, Mark markwdilley AT gmail DOT com
Sweet, I would love that. I will be there this weekend. Is your info at the info booth? I can track you down.
While I work 10 hr days and can’t always physically be present, I still want to help get the word out as much as possible. Through my line of work, I have a lot of opportunities to do so.
Keep it up everyone, I am SO PROUD.
